The 9th of July 2022 was a Saturday, but for adult cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons in the city of Port Harcourt and neighboring states it will remain fresh in their memories.
The Port Harcourt Interventional and Rhythm Society organized this top notch event with the theme “Advancing Cardiovascular Sciences in the Region”.
The Course Director, Dr. Emmanuel Edafe read the opening address, after which the symposium was declared open; there was also a goodwill message presented by the Nigerian Cardiac Society President Dr Okechukwu Ogah.
The Symposium was divided into 8 sessions, with each session having moderators, who were in charge of the sessions and managed the time of the facilitators.
The high point of the event was the OJ Odia oration, titled “The making of a cardiologist” which was delivered by Prof MR Maclean a Professor of cardiology; afterwards, awards of honor were presented to Emeritus Prof OJ Odia (The Father of cardiology in Rivers State), Prof Mrs Doris Uchenna (a Posthumous award of excellence) and Prof M.R Akpa for being the guest speaker at the OJ Odia Oration.
The Nigerian Faculty of the event was composed of; OJ Odia, MR Akpa, GN Owhonda, A Johnson, CE Nwafor, CA Alikor, I Iseko, D Jesuorobo, S Dodiyi-Manuel, B Oyan, SN Cookey, O Iheji, B Ajala, A Mankwe, D Ebirim, S Ofori, I Nwakor, B Oki, O Ogah, BE Otaigbe, SA Ujuanbi, P Tabansi, U Onubogu, O Amaewhule, E Ocheli, K Okonta, C Amadi, N Unamba, R Stanley, J Edeogu.
The International faculty of the event was composed of; NN Khanna, O Emerole, O Olafiranye. T Addo, A Sexina, A Jaswal.
The Symposium had its Course Director as Dr. Emmanuel Auchi Edafe; ably assisted by Dr. Ovundah Nyeche.

4. SVT Medical therapy. Dr SN Cookey.
